Royale Tumblr Theme

To see the design live go to the theme home here.

To install the theme:
1. Download the zip file containing all the necessary files.
2. Copy the contents of the “royale theme code.txt”.
3. Go to your dashboard, then Customize > Theme > “Custom Theme”
4. Paste into the text box.
5. Copy the contents of the “royale theme style.css”.
6. Go to your dashboard, then Customize > Advanced > “Add custom CSS”
7. Paste into the text box.

The images used in the theme have been provided please host them somewhere and update the link to the images in the style sheet accordingly.

Royale has been tested for consistency in IE7, Safari, Firefox. The background is rendered a little slowly on IE7, but it still works.

This theme is very dirty in terms of code and I’ll sort it out when i can; for now though…enjoy!

Questions? Comments? You can leave feedback here. Feel free to use/modify this theme as you wish, but just keep the credit attribution intact.

A visitor comes to your tumblog or in my case accidently stumbles upon it, how do you keep them there I hear you ask?! You could get on all fours and bark like a dog whilst simultaneously juggling 6 knives! Alternatively try adding these gems to your theme armoury:

This will display a link which says “Random Post” once clicked on it will take your intrepid visitor to a random post:

OR

This is something a little more flashy. It displays a link which reads “Random Page” once clicked it teleports your visitor to another dimension…not really, it just displays a random page from your tumblog:

I’ve just got them as links in my poor excuse for a menu, I might try something altogether fancy with them at a later date.

So everyone knows Tumblr sucks in the way it gets blogs indexed on search engines.

Here’s the problem:
{ Title}{ block:PostTitle} - { PostTitle}{ /block:PostTitle}

What this code does is display the title of the blog followed by the title of the post IF THERE IS ONE! Tumblr due to its nature does not require a title on every post e.g. audio posts. Hence with no title the only thing in the title bar is the name of the blog. Having absolutely nothing about the post in the title bar bodes badly for our page rank.

So the peeps at Tumblr heard the outcry from poor pathetic bloggers like me and came up with a solution:
{ Title}{ block:PostSummary}| { PostSummary}{ /block:PostSummary}

This bit of code will display the title of your blog followed by the title of the post if there is one if not then the caption from the post if the post type contains a caption if not it’ll find something from the post to add to the title bar. Let me tell you, it works a treat!

To carry out this modification simply find the whole problem line and replace it with the solution line not forgetting to remove all spaces between the curly brackets, simple. Guaranteed to work or I’ll eat my hat…not that i have a hat but if i had one and it didn’t work I’d eat it…I’ll buy a hat and eat it if it doesn’t work…happy?
